At the Veterinary Clinic of Faro we promote our patients’ health.
The Veterinary clinic of Faro is located in the hearth of the city fully integrated into the local community, while serving the whole of the Algarve, receiving recommendations from various colleagues in the region. The facilities have undergone permanent improvements since its opening in 2006, always with the intention of enhancing function and comfort for all who visit.
Bearing in mind that our main concern is the solution for problems of health for our patients, the equipment is kept up with the continuous evolution of the most modern technologies used in veterinary medicine.
The team’s drive translates into a close monitoring of its patients, vigilant to their needs in an environment that can be described as familiar, where quality, rigor and professionalism never fail the great warmth and sensibility with which all are treated.

Dogs and cats need blood transfusions for the same reasons humans do – severe traumas with
massive blood loss or chronic diseases that lead to anemia. For this reason the Faro Veterinary Clinic provides a transfusion service using the external blood bank and local donors.
It is extremely rewarding to watch the growth and evolution of our puppy or kitten, but we must be prepared for the fact that they, just like us, get old.
Senior old age is reached at the age of 8, a stage of life at which it is extremely important to make senior check-ups (a series of exams and analyses that bear in mind the early diagnosis of the main problems associated with aging), allowing us to act early, in order to prolong your best friends lifespan. Food should also be adjusted at this stage in life.
Sterilization is of particular importance whether for males or females.
For males the advantages are essentially behavioural, reducing aggressiveness and scentmarking, but also prevents prostate problems.
For females the main advantage is in the prevention of breast tumors and uterine infection – studies show an increase in longevity in females subject to sterilization.
A situation that is many times underestimated, but is of vital importance for the health of your dog or cat.
Early on you can start dental brushing, with an appropriate tooth paste and toothbrush, or even opt for substances that can be mixed in water or food that mimic dental brushing. There are also snacks, such as oral bars, which may also replace brushing.
However you must be aware that tartar removal, such as it is with humans, is inevitable and must be carried out periodically.
The arrival of a new puppy or kitten always brings up a lot of questions from the new owners. There are a series of rules that should be met in order to promote the health and well-being of your new family member.
You should never take your pet for a walk outside or have any contact with other animals before proceeding to have a vaccination plan. The vaccination plan can be initiated when the puppies are 6 weeks old and when kittens are 8 weeks old, however the deworming should be done before.
You should choose good dry food, adequate for breed and age, avoiding abrupt transitions between brands and types of food.
Baths may be given after the first vaccines, using an appropriate shampoo to the species, the frequency should never exceed a monthly bath.
